Ben Affleck to return as Bruce Wayne in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom
By Scott Brown
Jason Momoa has dropped a bombshell about a new addition to the cast of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
In a post on his Instagram account, it’s been revealed by Jason Momoa, Aquaman himself, that Ben Affleck is going to make an appearance in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
This will be the first appearance that Ben Affleck will have in the DCEU post-Justice League. Based on the how it was announced by Momoa, it seems like this appearance will be just a cameo and may not seen him don the Batsuit.
Rumors had been present for a while that Michael Keaton’s Batman was going to appear in a cameo role in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom but, now that Aquaman 2 is coming out before The Flash, it seems that plans have changed and Affleck will be taking over the Bruce Wayne appearance that is present within the film.
Ben Affleck’s unexpected return in Aquaman 2
More than likely, this change has happened because of the constant shift in The Flash’s release schedule. Before settling on its current date of June 23, 2023, and after years of delays, The Flash was initially supposed to be released in 2022 – which would have placed it before Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Now that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is coming out on March 17, 2023 and The Flash has been pushed back to the aforementioned date, it makes sense to use Affleck instead of Keaton due to the events of The Flash not having occurred yet, both in-universe and in the audience’s mind.
If the date change for both films had never occurred, Affleck’s appearance more than likely wouldn’t have happened and it would’ve stayed Keaton like originally rumored to occur. Nevertheless, this is at least one more appearance for Ben Affleck’s Batman.
