New on Disney Plus in August 2022: She-Hulk, I Am Groot and more

What’s coming to Disney Plus in August 2022? Keep your eyes peeled for more MCU in She-Hulk and I Am Groot, but they aren’t the only superhero adventures coming.

As we reach the halfway point of the summer, we set our sights on August and all that it has in store for the entertainment world. For Disney Plus, it’s more steps into the ever-expanding world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the MCU won’t be the only place you find a superhero’s first adventure on the streamer this month.

Fresh off hit adventures like six-part miniseries Ms. Marvel and the streaming debut of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Disney+ looks set to make August another blockbuster one with these new arrivals. Speaking of which, let’s look at what’s coming over the next month.

New Disney Plus movies and shows August 2022

Before we dive into the full list of new additions to Disney Plus in August 2022, let’s take a moment to spotlight some of the major new arrivals to the streaming service.

Lightyear

Release date: August 3

Starring Marvel’s own Chris Evans as the voice of Buzz Lightyear, this Toy Story spin-off severely underperformed at the box office, but it was well-received by audiences around the world. With that in mind, it will fit right in on Disney Plus.

See Buzz Lightyear like you’ve never seen him before, moving through the galaxy in the story that fictionally takes place before Toy Story itself.

I Am Groot

Release date: August 10

We just can’t get enough of the beloved Groot and Marvel Studios is clearly aware of that, as the Guardian of the Galaxy will headline his very own animated series of shorts.

Five shorts will debut all at once (with five more to follow), showcasing the adventures that Baby Groot got up to while finding his place in the universe. And, yes, Vin Diesel will reprise his role to say (many variations of) that iconic line.

She-Hulk: Attorney At Law

Release date: August 17

The newest live-action installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe sees Tatiana Maslany make her long-awaited debut as the Jade Giantess. In the comics, attorney Jennifer Walters requires a blood transfusion from her big green cousin, resulting in her becoming every bit as incredible (and green) as Bruce Banner. The show may well follow in that direction too, as Mark Ruffalo reprises his role from the movies, as Professor Hulk seeks to teach his cousin how to be a superhero.

She-Hulk: Attorney At Law is described as being a nine-episode legal-dramedy and it will drop three episodes in the month of August, each one landing on a Wednesday.

Andor

Release date: August 31

The MCU isn’t the only established franchise expanding on Disney Plus in August, as another new chapter of the Star Wars saga makes its presence felt on the streamer. This time, it’s Andor, a prequel to the acclaimed Star Wars spin-off Rogue One, it gives us a glimpse into the life of Rebel Spy Cassian Andor before the events of that movie.

Diego Luna returns as the title character and the series will debut with a special two-episode premiere on August 31. And after the 12-episode debut season concludes, there will be more adventures ahead for Andor as a second season is already in the works.
