The Flash season 9 is not coming to The CW in August 2022
The Flash season 9 will speed its way onto The CW at some point, but don’t be expecting it this summer.
The Flash is not just a staple of The CW but the superhero genre as a whole. One of the very first in this modern wave of comic book and superhero TV shows, the Arrowverse series has outlasted almost every single one of its counterparts to produce eight seasons. And counting!
Yes, the show has been renewed for a ninth season, with speculation that it might be the final chapter for Central City’s Scarlet Speedster. We don’t know if that is the case, and we don’t exactly know when season 9 will premiere yet, but we do know that the show won’t be returning this coming month.
The show’s eighth season wrapped its run in June, meaning that August would be too soon for it to return – especially as production hasn’t even begun yet. And while The CW’s fall schedule does indeed kick off in August with DC’s Stargirl, The Flash is not listed on the network’s schedule at all this year.
The Flash season 9 release date predictions
The Flash season 9 will be released in 2023. The CW announced back in May that the show would not air in its typical fall slot and that it was being held until next year. While the network has yet to reveal which month it will return in, it’s highly likely that it will premiere sometime between January and March.
While The Flash is a staple of the network’s fall schedule, there have been occasional exceptions in recent years, with season 7 kicking off in March and the bulk of season 8 (post-five-episode-event intro) doing the same. With that in mind, a March 2023 debut for season 9 is the most likely possibility here.
That being said, don’t be surprised if the network opts to have it return sooner to fill some of the slots that may be left open after some fall shows complete their current seasons.
