DC Comics announces a 10 year movie plan and it could be the move that brings their movie franchise to the top of the film industry.

This writer is on record saying that DC Comics’ movies haven’t filled their fans with hope. Actors leaving the franchise and delays due to multiple reasons are causing people to lose faith in the DC Entertainment Universe (DCEU).

The recent news that Batirgl won’t be released on HBO Max or in theaters didn’t do them any favors. Considering that DC has some of the best comic book characters of all time, it’s disappointing. There’s no way that they shouldn’t be ahead of the game.

Nevertheless, with all of that bad news comes something positive. The DCEU is reportedly working on a 10 year plan.

Warner Bros. announces 10-year plan for DC Comics movies

During the Q2 2022 earnings call, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav said,

"“There will be a team with a 10-year plan focusing just on DC. It’s very similar to the structure that Alan Horn and Bob Iger put together, very effectively, with Kevin Feige at Disney. We think that we could build a long-term much stronger, sustainable growth business out of DC. And as part of that, we’re going to focus on quality. We’re not going to release any film before it’s ready. We’re not going to release a film to make a quarter. We’re not going to release a film unless the focus is going to be, ‘How do we make each of these films in general as good as possible?’ But DC is something that we think we could make better and we’re focused on it now."

For years, DC Comics fans have wondered why the movies seemed rushed. It was like they were up against Marvel Studios in a race that only they knew existed. It was obvious that the movies were rushed when too much was being put into one project. This is why the ten-year plan is a glorious idea.

There’s no reason that the Justice League movie couldn’t have taken longer to build up. If it had, moviegoers would have had more time to learn about the characters and let them develop before the big Justice League movie. DC was lucky when Jason Mamoa, Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot were loved by fans. If they weren’t, it would have killed the franchise a long time ago.

Lastly, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav said something that should make everyone happy. Saying, “We’re not going to release a film to make a quarter. We’re not going to release a film unless the focus is going to be, ‘How do we make each of these films in general as good as possible.” That means the focus will be on the quality of the film rather than the quantity of money it’ll bring in.

This could be the change that moviegoers have been looking for for close to a decade. Hopefully, it’ll be worth the wait. This could make DC Comics movies the great franchise they always should have been.
