The Girl of Steel will now be The Girl on the Bus in the upcoming HBO Max drama which reunites Melissa Benoist with Greg Berlanti.

As revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, former Glee star and Girl of Steel herself, Melissa Benoist, is about to make a TV comeback. Benoist spent six years starring as Kara Zor-El/Kara Danvers in the CBS/The CW superhero adventure series Supergirl. Now, she it set to lead the upcoming HBO Max drama The Girl on the Bus.

Reports originally surfaced in February that Benoist was attached to the project – a project that would see her reunite with Arrowverse mastermind Greg Berlanti and his production company. Now it has been confirmed that she will play the lead role and produce the series as well.

What is the new role and what’s next for Melissa Benoist?

Melissa Benoist will portray journalist Sadie McCarthy, who scraps her whole life to cover a presidential campaign. The show is inspired by a chapter from the Amy Chozich novel Chasing Hillary which features an account of a journalist covering Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign for The New York Times.

Initially picked up by Netflix in 2019, The Girl on the Bus was then sought after by The CW Network until HBO Max hooked up the political drama series, granting it a straight-to-series order.

Benoist has also renewed an exclusive deal with Warner Bros. Discovery which will see the Supergirl star continue developing new shows across the majority of the studio’s programming, including its streaming platform, HBO Max.

Three Things Productions, a production company launched, owned, and founded by Benoist, with vice president of development, Sahar Kashi, alongside Berlanti Productions are also producing the series.
