X-Men in the MCU: Cannonball (Sam Guthrie)

Something Marvel has done well over time is find characters that can span plenty of stories and groups. Wanda was brought in as part of a villain structure before becoming an Avenger and then drifting back to a villain. Cannonball would be grouped in that section as well.

Beginning as a member of the New Mutants, Cannonball moved up the ranks in the comics. Over time, he’s been a member of the X-Force, the X-Men and even the Avengers. That alone makes him an intriguing character to add to the MCU based on the versatility of the character.

Cannonball also has a wide range of abilities that could open the door for Marvel to become creative with what we see on the screen. They’ve done this with other characters to differentiate the powers across the MCU. One of his abilities that would be unique is his durability. He can use energy to be incredibly durable which helps prolong his life.

If the MCU wants to have a versatile group of heroes, Cannonball clearly fits the bill. There’s room for lots of growth from the character if you start early on and Marvel could jump at the opportunity to have their own spin on the X-Men with an angle like this.
