I Am Groot cast: Are any of the Guardians of the Galaxy in I Am Groot?

I Am Groot has finally arrived on Disney Plus and features the return of Groot, but who else makes up the I Am Groot cast?

There have been a lot of firsts for the Marvel Cinematic Universe in recent years, which seems crazy for a franchise that has been around as long as the MCU.

The latest first for the MCU has come with the release of I Am Groot, a new Disney Plus series comprised of a series of shorts starring one of Marvel’s most lovable characters: Groot.

Across the series of shorts, we get to see Baby Groot embark on a series of mini-adventures set between the events which have unfolded in the MCU. At the heart of the series is, you guessed it, Groot, who takes center stage in the fun shorts that put Baby Groot center stage. While Groot is the star of the series, he is a Guardian so do any of his fellow Guardians pop up across the series?

I Am Groot cast: Do the Guardians appear in I Am Groot?

Leading the I Am Groot cast is Vin Diesel, who once again returns to voice Baby Groot in the series as the show’s lead star. In fact, in most episodes, Diesel is the only key Marvel actor who is credited for work in the series; however, he’s not the only Marvel star who makes an appearance across the show’s first five shorts.

In addition to Baby Groot, I Am Groot also features the return of Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon who makes an appearance in the fifth short in the series, “Magnum Opus.” While Rocket is the only Guardian who makes an appearance in a speaking role, the episode does include a cameo from another member of the team as well: Drax the Destroyer.

In “Magnum Opus,” Baby Groot sets out to paint a portrait of himself and the Guardians and goes to great lengths to collect his art supplies. Among the items on his list is Drax’s bar of soap, which Baby Groot successfully steals in a scene that features a brief cameo from Drax. As Baby Groot sneaks in to steal the soap as Drax showers, we see a silhouette of the character through the foggy glass — we just don’t officially see Dave Bautista back in the role.

In addition to cameos from Rocket and Drax, in the third short from the series, “Groot’s Pursuit,” Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn makes a cameo in lending his voice to the wristwatch Baby Groot uses as a headlamp.
