Will Halle Bailey play Kitty Pryde of the X-Men in the MCU?
By Mark Lynch
Is Halle Bailey playing Kitty Pryde of the X-Men? She says no, but maybe this could get Marvel Studios execs thinking.
With mutants getting teased in the Marvel Cinematic Universe via the Ms. Marvel finale, an announcement about the X-Men should come soon. That means rumors are going to fly about casting Marvel Mightiest Mutants. Of course the popular X-Men like Storm, Wolverine, and Magneto will be among the rumors. Recently, Moses Ingram was rumored to have a meeting with Marvel. This led people to believe that she could be playing Storm. A pick this writer is all for.
Besides the more popular X-Men, team members like Colossus, Gambit, and Kitty Pryde shouldn’t be forgotten when the team debuts in the MCU. Speaking of the latter, she’s among the X-Men to be in the rumor mill. The actress rumored to play her is the incredibly popular singer and actress, Halle Bailey.
Halle Bailey would be a welcome choice. Her voice is amazing, her personality on social media is warm, and seems to be friendly. Her acting skills are also very impressive, as they landed her a role as one of the most iconic characters of all time. She’ll be playing Ariel in The Little Mermaid remake for Disney.
While The Little Mermaid is confirmed, Halle stated that she has not been cast to play Kitty Pryde in the MCU, shutting that rumor down quickly. When one of her Twitter fan accounts tweeted that Halle was playing Kitty Pryde, Halle quote-tweeted it and commented, “this is not true lmao.” Normally, this should be quickly dismissed. And, while she may have said this isn’t happening, never say never.
If Halle Bailey says she’s not Kitty Pryde, fans should believe her. After all, the account that tweeted the original tweet linked to an unrelated article, implying that it was a fake announcement all along.
However, it’s not likely that Halle is playing Kitty Pryde because the character is Jewish. Marvel Studios is committed to honoring the comic book characters and the representation they inspire. Things like race and religion are important to some heroes and villains. A perfect example of this is Alaqua Cox who played Maya Lopez, a.k.a. Echo, in Hawkeye. She’s a deaf indigenous woman playing a deaf indigenous Marvel Comics hero. With Kitty Pryde being Jewish, it would only make sense that the actress would be as well. We’ll have to wait and see who gets the honor of playing the role.
