Jonathan Kent to be recast in Superman and Lois as Jordan Elsass exits CW series

Jordan Elsass has exited the role of Jonathan Kent in Superman and Lois amidst undisclosed personal reasons.

In incredibly shocking news regarding the acclaimed series Superman and Lois, which just nabbed several nominations at the Saturn Awards, Jordan Elsass will be departing the show and won’t return for season 3, which heads into production in the coming weeks.

According to Variety, Elsass did not return by the deadline that was given to the cast for their return to Vancouver. In a statement from Warner Bros. TV, “Jordan Elsass has notified the Studio that he will not be returning…for personal reasons…the role will be recast.”

This is obviously a shock as it is exceedingly rare for a starring role to be recast going into a show’s third season. As of right now, as the news just broke, there is no indication as to who will be the new actor portraying Jonathan Kent in Superman and Lois. As for Elsass himself, fans are wishing him well and hoping that he is okay given the sudden announcement.

This isn’t the first time that a DC CW show has had to recast a main character due to said character leaving the series and/or being fired. Notably, Ruby Rose was recast with Wallis Day in season 2 of Batwoman with the lead role of the series given to an entirely new character in Javicia Leslie’s Ryan Wilder. Superman & Lois can’t just create a new son or daughter to take the place of Jonathan (unless it’s an alternate reality child, like Natalie, and Jonathan is killed off), so it remains to be seen how the series will handle the use of Jordan moving forward.

All this being said, it will be disappointing to see Elsass go. He had great chemistry with both of his on-screen siblings, Alex Garfin and Tayler Buck, as well as Tyler Hoechlin and Bitsie Tulloch. It will be an adjustment period for whoever will be cast as Jonathan.

Superman and Lois season 3 will air on The CW in 2023.
