The Walking Dead is one of the biggest TV shows of this generation but is it still on or has it finished its lengthy run on AMC?

The Walking Dead has a legacy on television the likes of which many would aspire to have. It defined a generation of TV, introducing us to a horde of unique and troubled characters as they all are attempting to survive in a world overrun by the undead.

Based on the comic series by Robert Kirkman and artist Tony Moore, it kicked off way back in 2010 and starred Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride and a huge ensemble cast that has changed quite drastically over the years.

TWD has been on the air for a long time, and if you’ve fallen out of watching the show over time, you might be curious to know if it’s still on. But you might not be the only one asking that question. On that note, let’s find out the current status of the show.

Is The Walking Dead still on TV?

Yes, actually, The Walking Dead is still alive. The long-running AMC series is in the midst of airing its eleventh season on the cable network. However, the end is nigh for the show as season 11 is indeed its final season.

If you already knew all of that and can’t figure out why the show isn’t airing on Sunday nights at the moment, that’s down to the fact that it’s currently on hiatus. The final season has been split into three acts (each of which are eight episodes each), and it will return to screens later this year to air its final part.

When does The Walking Dead season 11 return for part 3?

The Walking Dead season 11 returns to AMC on Sunday October 2, 2022. This will see it kicking off the third part of its final season with the long-awaited season 11, episode 17. The announcement was made at San Diego Comic-Con when the trailer was unveiled.

With that in mind, the final eight episodes will run weekly, with the show concluding its run on November 20.

This is not the end for the TWD Universe, however, as there are multiple spin-offs in the works, including three that feature main TWD characters. Furthermore, original spin-off Fear The Walking Dead is still on the air, miniseries The Walking Dead: World Beyond gave us a glimpse of this world through younger eyes, and new spin-off Tales of the Walking Dead just launched.
