Thor: Love and Thunder isn’t coming to Disney Plus when you thought (Here’s why)

Marvel fans are eager to know when Thor: Love and Thunder premieres on Disney Plus. Here’s why it won’t arrive this month.

Chris Hemsworth reprised his most iconic role earlier this year when Thor: Love and Thunder hit movie theaters around the world in July. The fourth in the God of Thunder’s solo franchise, and Hemsworth’s ninth overall appearance as the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it was a memorable adventure from the mind of Taika Waititi.

Those who haven’t seen it on the big screen (or those who are just eager to revisit it) have ben curious as to when it will make its arrival on Disney Plus. The running theory was that it would arrive in the last week of August, as that would be just outside of the film’s 45-day theatrical release window – the same pattern that predecessors Shang-Chi, Eternals and Doctor Strange 2 followed.

As August went on, however, it soon became apparent that this wouldn’t be the case as there was radio silence from Marvel Studios on the matter. And now, the studio has finally made an announcement, confirming that it won’t arrive in August after all. The good news is that we don’t have to wait too much longer for it either.

Thor: Love and Thunder release date

Thor: Love and Thunder will be released on Thursday, September 8, 2022. The news was announced towards the end of August, after fans began to wonder if the film wouldn’t be released around the completion of the 45-day theatrical release window that previous MCU films dropped after. Those theories were right, as it was revealed that the film’s arrival on the streaming service in September would be part of the Disney Plus Day celebration.

If you look back at 2021’s edition of the event, you might remember that it kicked off with the arrival of Shang-Chi And The Legend of the Ten Rings on the streaming service, so it does make sense that Marvel are looking to recreate that here with Thor 4.

At least now we know. This time next month, Thor: Love and Thunder will have made its presence felt on the Disney streamer!
