The Predator prequel reinvigorated the classic sci-fi franchise, but will Prey 2 enter the atmosphere and unleash another hunt?

You won’t find a more classic science fiction franchise than the Predator film series. Starting with Arnold Schwarzenegger’s jungle showdown with the alien hunter in 1987, it has gone on to become one of the most iconic franchises in cinematic history. That said, subsequent sequels were either critically demolished or poor performers at the box office (or, in some cases, both).

That all changed with Prey. An exclusive to the Hulu streaming service, Prey took the Predator franchise back to its roots, swapping out big-budget spectacles and advanced weaponry for a grounded hunt that leaned heavily on the series’ most thrilling aspects.

The result was a major success, with Prey receiving critical acclaim and becoming Hulu’s biggest movie or TV premiere ever.

Naturally, fans want to know if Naru (Amber Midthunder) is destined for a rematch with the Yuatja. Will Prey 2 happen?

Spoilers from Prey ahead.

Is Prey 2 happening?

Hulu has yet to announce what the future holds for the Predator franchise, but it is looking like Prey 2 is a realistic possibility. For starters, the film’s end credits teased that there was more to the story, as it artistically depicted the film’s events through a series of ancient drawings before using the final drawing to depict a scene that wasn’t in the film. And that drawing depicted the arrival of more Predators.

Before the film, there was always the discussion of how a Prey sequel could look. Would it be a direct sequel or would it be a completely different Predator prequel set in a different time period? If it does go ahead, the end credits seem to have confirmed that answer.

Prey was an overwhelming success. The positive response and its successful three-day premiere window make it the most successful Predator movie since the first two, and from that response, it’s clear that people want to see more of the story.
