Thor shows the Hulk that he’s the strongest there is
By Mark Lynch
The Thor and Hulk Marvel Comics crossover Banner of War ended with the God of Thunder showing readers that he’s been holding back while battling Hulk.
When it comes to strength in comic books, there are some names that have to be mentioned. For DC Comics, it’s Superman and Wonder Woman. In Marvel Comics, though, it’s Thor and the Hulk. The two powerhouses have been fighting each other for decades. Both of them have taken battles from the other. Some closer than others.
In Al Ewing’s Immortal Hulk, the Jade Giant hit Thor so hard the God of Thunder had to be taken away from the battlefield. During the Marvel Comics crossover Fear Itself, Thor hit the Hulk so hard in New York that he landed in Europe.
Recently, in a series called Banner of War, they had a series of fights. The last of them proved who was the strongest.
Thor is stronger than the Hulk
After being doused with too much gamma radiation, the Odinson became a Hulk. To defeat him, Odin granted the Hulk (who was being controlled by Bruce Banner) the ability to use Mjolnir. Now, with everything even, the two had one more fight. Unfortunately for Bruce Banner, he learned a lesson. The God of Thunder has always held back.
Beta Ray Bill tells Sif that every time they fought, the Odinson held back because he saw someone worth saving and showed him mercy. Now that the God of Thunder lacked that compassion, there was nothing holding him back. Beta Ray Bill also said Hulk would finally find out what it was like to fight a god. At that point, Thor ripped Hulk’s arm off. If not for the Odinson being trapped by Yggdrasil, Banner would have been killed.
Does this prove anything?
If this writer is being honest, this isn’t over. Nothing will be solved between the two Avengers. They’re both too proud and stubborn to accept the other as the strongest. Plus, there’s no way that Marvel Comics would stop their rivalry. Watching them come to blows is too entertaining. At some point, a writer will upgrade Hulk’s powers and he’ll win. After that, Thor will probably take the next battle.
So, realistically, this victory doesn’t mean much in comics. It’s all about the readers’ satisfaction and Banner of War was an entertaining series worth checking out.
