Marvel Comics: Captain America was judged and found wanting

The Eternals’ new god has begun judging people in the Marvel Comics A.X.E. Judgment Day and Captain America was found lacking.

There are certain comic book characters that are looked at as the best of the best. They inspire people to be better because they lead by example. Among the best in that category is Steve Rogers.

It doesn’t matter if he’s Captain America, Nomad, or Old Man Rogers, he’s always been an example of greatness to the world and sometimes the entire universe. Which is why being found “wanting” by an Eternals god came as a surprise.

During the Marvel Comics crossover event A.X.E. Judgment Day No. 2, the Celestial god said that it would judge all of the beings on Earth. If the good outweighed the bad, then Earth would be saved. If not, the world would be destroyed.

In the beginning of issue No. 3, Captain America was the first to be judged. It didn’t go how you’d think. The Celestial deemed him a failure saying, “You are a dream of a better country. You have tried to inspire it for a century. This country is the world leader…and the world is what it is. It is worse every day. You are a failure.” After that, the physical manifestation of Captain America gave the real Cap a thumbs down.

Other characters like Emma Frost, Mystique, and Destiny were found wanting as well. Their judgment may not come as a surprise. However, Steve Rogers isn’t like the previous three. There isn’t a selfish bone in his body.

If everyone is being judged on their accomplishments, is anyone truly worthy? We’ll have to wait and see.
