20 Marvel and Disney characters who deserve their own Disney Plus shorts
By Mark Lynch
10. R2-D2 and C-3PO
R2-D2 and C-3PO are among the most famous duos in movies. C-3PO’s snarky and cynical comments on top of R2-D2’s indecipherable beeps (which are also probably snarky) will make for an amusing series. Especially during their dangerous adventures.
This wouldn’t be serious or dramatic. Just two friends being put in situations that stress C-3PO while R2-D2 fixes things. Also, Disney Plus doesn’t have to promote it much. People will tune in as soon as they see their names.
9. Stormtroopers
Stormtroopers are widely regarded as the worst henchmen of all time. They consistently get killed, they lack basic survival skills, and they couldn’t hit water if they jumped off a rowboat in the Atlantic Ocean.
You’re probably thinking, “If they’re so bad, then why should they get shorts on Disney Plus?” Simply because it could be entertaining. Seeing them get picked off by Star Wars characters would be hilarious. Just when you think they’re going to win, boom, they’re gone. Or Disney could go the Robot Chicken route and make it follow one Stormtrooper in particular.
8. Roger Rabbit
Roger Rabbit is a personal favorite. He’s the epitome of goofy cartoon characters. It’s like they took every Looney Tunes trope and put them in him.
Roger Rabbit already has animated shorts to his name. Nevertheless, his character is timeless. He could stay in the same time period and be just as fun, even if the newer crowd doesn’t recognize the scenery. However, it would be great to see Roger Rabbit in the year 2022 with the same mentality.
7. Silver Surfer
The Silver Surfer has flown all over the universe for longer than some beings have been alive. He’s seen and experienced things that would blow viewers’ minds. So why not put them on Disney Plus for everyone to see?
When Norrin Radd, a.k.a. Silver Surfer, was the Herald of Galactus, he did awful things. Among them was preparing a planet for his master’s arrival. That meant softening up (or killing) beings so Galactus could eat in peace. Eventually, the Surfer rebelled and became a hero. The before and after of his journey would lead to captivating stories. It won’t be as funny as some of the other selections on this list, but it will be visually stunning.
