DC’s Stargirl season 3 opened with a bang, but what does the rest of the season hold? Who was responsible for the murder that launched the season’s mystery?

It’s been a long wait for new episodes of DC’s Stargirl. The Arrowverse offshoot returned to The CW this week after nearly a year off screens for the premiere of its third season and it arrived in emphatic fashion.

The beginning of the “Frenemies” story arc, the premiere launched the show’s central murder mystery, and it all started with the return of a former Injustice Society villain: The Gambler.

The Gambler returned to town in hopes of starting afresh, reforming like the rest of his ISA counterparts. The reason for his change of heart was the fact that he had a daughter, Becky, out there in the world and he wanted to be a better person that she could look up to. Sadly, he was killed before that could happen.

Who killed The Gambler in DC’s Stargirl season 3?

Stargirl season 3 is all about its murder mystery, so believe us when we say that episode 2 will lean into that fully. Titled “Frenemies: Chapter Two – The Suspects”, it will give us a glimpse into each of the suspects in the investigation and look at their potential motivations.

Right now, the primary suspect is Cindy Burman, a.k.a. Shiv. While she’s trying to be better, she hasn’t exactly given the JSA a reason to trust her, and she did go off-book and attempt to confront The Gambler before the rest of the team. Most of all, though, she was caught over his body holding his gun immediately after a gunshot had been fired.

But Cindy’s not the only suspect. Let’s not forget that The Gambler had a pretty intense run-in with The Shade in the diner, with the supernatural one not taking too kindly to his former colleague’s return. Could he have sought revenge?

Somebody was watching The Gambler from not too far away, but that may not be the only person watching him. Whoever has linked themselves up to all of the homes and offices in Blue Valley clearly has some agenda and The Gambler uncovered it seconds before he was killed. Is this the entity who really took him out? And if so, what is their plan?

Like every thrilling whodunit, there are a lot of pieces in play here, and we can confirm that episode 2 will have a lot of fun with that. “The Suspects” airs next Wednesday, September 7, at 8:00 p.m. ET.

Stargirl season 3 airs on The CW every Wednesday night at 8/7c.
