Black Adam is not coming to theaters (or HBO Max) in September 2022
By Cody Schultz
After several delays, the wait for Black Adam continues in September as the Dwayne Johnson-led film will not be hitting theaters or HBO Max this month.
Recent years have been quite interesting for moviegoers. Going back to early 2020 when the pandemic first began, studios began shifting release dates of previously planned movies or moving them to streaming platforms.
Among the many movies delayed due to the pandemic has been Warner Bros.’s Black Adam, starring Dwayne Johnson. Originally slated to arrive in Fall 2021, the film has since been delayed several times and looked primed to drop in July as one of Warner Bros.’s bigger summer releases.
Just when it looked as though the film was going to finally arrive in the summer, Warner Bros. decided to push its release back even further. The delays have made it difficult to keep up with when the film will finally arrive, but we can confirm Black Adam will not be coming in September.
That’s the bad news. The good news? Barring any further unexpected delays, Warner Bros.’s next superhero film should finally be coming to a theater near you very soon.
Black Adam release date (2022)
Originally slated to release on Dec. 22, 2021, Black Adam was pushed back to July 29, 2022, before Warner Bros. finally landed on the release date of Oct. 21, 2022. Given the number of times Warner Bros. has delayed some of its films it’s understandable to question if another delay could be coming, we don’t anticipate the film being delayed any further.
Warner Bros. has been heavily promoting the Oct. 21 release date for the Dwayne Johnson-led film, seeming to indicate this release date should stick.
Black Adam HBO Max release updates
While Black Adam will be arriving in theaters on Oct. 21, fans should not expect the film to arrive on HBO Max within the next two months. Under Warner Bros. Discovery, the studio has been holding its biggest theatrical releases back beyond the 45-day window meaning it’s likely there is a chance Warner Bros. Discovery might not even release the film on HBO Max before the end of the year.
Elvis opened in theaters on June 24 but didn’t arrive on HBO Max until Sept. 2 which was just over two months after its theatrical release. If Warner Bros. Discovery opts to go with a similar strategy for Black Adam, it’s possible they could hold the film until January 2023.
Alternatively, it is possible they could look to drop the film on HBO Max on Christmas Day which would give the platform a big streaming release timed to the holiday.
