While the Skrulls were attempting a distraction, they accidentally assembled a new team of Avengers.

Captain America always believed that the Avengers were created by fate. It helps that the first team was brought together thanks to Loki. It happened again when the team found Captain America frozen in ice. When Cap joined, when the team was officially complete.

Since their creation in the pages of Marvel Comics, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes have protected the world and sometimes the universe from threats. Unfortunately, even the world’s greatest heroes aren’t immune from life altering defeats. When the Scarlet Witch lost control of her powers, the Avengers disbanded in Avengers: Disassembled. It seemed like this was the end of the superhero team. Then, fate struck again and created a new team.

The Skrulls’ Plan

The skrulls had begun their invasion by replacing beings all over the world with one of their own. If you were an important or influential group, you likely had a skrull in your midst. Among those groups was The Hand. Not even the deadly assassin cult was exempt from being infiltrated. In order to get to them, they needed to capture and replace Elektra. A task that took four Super Skrulls to get the job done.

Once she was replaced, the skrull queen Veranke ordered them to turn the superhero world upside down. That’s why the breakout occurred. It didn’t have much to do with Sauron. He was just a means to an end and Electro was a pawn. Too bad their disruption caused the birth of the New Avengers.
