Superman and Lois has found its new Jonathan Kent
Michael Bishop has been cast as Jonathan Kent in Superman and Lois season 3, replacing Jordan Elsass in the DC TV series.
Jordan Elsass’s departure from The CW‘s Superman and Lois caught fans of the DC TV series off-guard as the third season was just weeks away from filming. The actor portrayed Jonathan Kent, one of the two sons of the title characters (as well as his Bizarro doppelganger Jon-El), throughout the first two seasons, making him a major part of the series.
Now, with production set to begin this very week, Deadline reveals the show has found its new Jonathan in Australian actor Michael Bishop. He will debut in season 3.
It’s great to see the role filled since it went vacant when the sudden departure came to light, and we look forward to seeing what Michael Bishop can bring to the role while honoring the legacy of Elsass’s portrayal.
Now the news of Elsass’ departure came as quite a shock for many, including the cast and fans. When the news officially broke in August. Warner Bros. Television released the following statement “Jordan Elsass has notified the studio that he will not be returning to Superman & Lois for Season 3 due to personal reasons”.
However, Elsass confirmed the reasoning behind his decision in a Cameo video, explaining:
"“It’s sad, it’s a real shame… I know that I was pumped for Season 3, for sure, but what are you going to do? Anyway, mental health is definitely 100-percent priority. It’s pinnacle. It’s got to take precedence. And mine has been … the last couple of years … it’s been rough.”"
He also suggested that he may step away from acting in the future, adding “I know that’s definitely going to be disappointing to some people.”

, steps into the role from season 3 onwards, joining established series regulars Tyler Hoechlin, as Clark Kent/Superman, Bitsie Tulloch as Lois Lane, Alex Garfin as Jordan Kent, Emmanuelle Chriqui as Lana Lang-Cushing, Dylan Walsh as Sam Lane, Wolé Parks as John Henry Irons, Tayler Buck as Natalie Irons, Inde Navarrette as Sarah Cushing, Erik Valdez as Kyle Cushing and Sofia Hasmik as Chrissy Beppo.
Superman & Lois has been renewed for a third season by The CW, but the exact premiere date has not yet been announced. One thing is for sure though: It won’t be a part of the fall line-up, with the network opting to hold it until 2023.
