Heading into the first season of House of the Dragonfans were eager to see which actors and actresses might emerge as breakout favorites this season. Well, there have been a few breakouts from the first several episodes of the season including  Milly Alcock, whose performance as Rhaenyra Targaryen princess has been championed as one of the highlights of the season.

Fans have quickly fallen in love with the young Targaryen princess with Alcock delivering an incredible performance. She’s been a true standout this season, which is why fans have begun growing concerned about her future on the show.

Time is moving fast on the series with several time jumps having already occurred. While Alcock has stuck around Rhaenyra through these smaller time jumps, her time on the show seems to be coming to an end as the show approaches its biggest time jump yet.

Is Rhaenyra Targaryen recast in House of the Dragon?

Sadly, the role of Rhaenyra Targaryen is indeed going to be recast following the fifth episode of House of the Dragon. As the show prepares for its biggest time jump yet, the role of Rhaenyra Targaryen was originated by Milly Alcock but actress Emma D’Arcy will be taking over the role in episode 6 as the show jumps ahead 10 years.

It’s not clear whether we could see Alcock back in any future episode via flashback sequences, but the young actress is only credited for five episodes of the show on IMDb which suggests episode 5 will be her final episode.

Why did Milly Alcock leave House of the Dragon?

Mill Alcock will be leaving House of the Dragon after the show’s fifth episode due to her character being recast to accommodate the show’s latest time jump. As the show will be jumping ahead several years, HBO will be bringing in an older actress to play the character of Rhaenyra Targaryen.
