Mahershala Ali looks amazing as Blade in this incredible image, making us all the more excited for his upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as the character.
Until the 2022 comeback edition, San Diego Comic-Con 2019 may have been the biggest of them all for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The studio’s President Kevin Feige revealed what Marvel Studios had in mind for the shared universe’s fourth and fifth phases. Among those announcements was the confirmation that Blade would finally be joining the MCU and that he would be portrayed by Mahershala Ali.
Blade was first introduced into Marvel Comics back in 1973 and he has since gone on to become an incredibly popular character. One of the reasons for that popularity was the film Blade (which was released in 2000 and starred Wesley Snipes as the character) and its two sequels – all of which introduced the character (and the notion of very dark superhero movies) to a whole new audience.
Little is known about Mahershala Ali’s debut right now. However, Comic-Con 2022 not only confirmed that there are plenty of Phase Five and Six projects on their way after Phase Four, it revealed when we can expect Blade, which up until that point had been one of the only ones without a concrete release date. The film will arrive on November 3, 2023.
Needless to say fans are excited to see the MCU journey into darker territory with the legendary vampire hunter. However, this jaw-droppingly good fanart has given us an idea of what Ali could look like as the character.
What Mahershala Ali might look like as Blade in the MCU
This awesome fan art comes from digital artist apexform and it teases the upcoming Blade movie with Mahershala Ali’s vampire slayer front and center.
The image showcases Ali’s Blade – who looks nothing short of amazing – while a smaller image of the character’s silhouette appears in the larger version’s chest area, showcasing his red eyes as he stands, ready to battle the undead army, against the eerie cityscape behind him.
Ali is undoubtedly a Hollywood legend, having appeared in movies such as The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay (Parts 1 and 2), and, of course his Academy Award-winning performances in Moonlight and Green Book. He also starred in House of Cards and Marvel’s Luke Cage on Netflix.
If this fanart is any indication of what Ali will look like as Blade, it’s safe to say we’re in for an incredible adaptation.
