6. Daredevil: Man Without Fear

Marvel Comics by Brian Michael Bendis

Brian Michael Bendis was one of Marvel Comics’ most popular writers. He’s responsible for creating characters like Miles Morales and Jessica Jones. He can also be credited for the revival of Luke Cage’s popularity. He did this while he was writing nearly flawless series like New Avengers, Ultimate Spider-Man, and Alias. Somehow he managed to find time to pen a perfect Daredevil run.

In this series, Daredevil was going through a downward spiral. Set in the aftermath of Bullseye killing Karen Page (a story written by Kevin Smith), this series showed readers how he never dealt with the trauma. It caused him to alienate his friends and make decisions like declaring himself the Kingpin of New York. This is also where the world “finds out” that Daredevil is the blind lawyer, Matt Murdock.

This is the series that anyone who enjoys reading should own.

5. Echo

Marvel comic: Daredevil: Echo-Vision Quest

One of the more underrated people in Matt Murdock’s life is Maya Lopez, a.k.a. Echo. It’s interesting how close and different their origins are. They both defied expectations and limitations, showcasing how their disabilities became their power. Both of their fathers were affiliated with organized crime as well.

While this particular story isn’t about Daredevil, it’s in the Man Without Fear’s lore. Plus the story and art are incredible. David W. Mack wrote and did the art for this series. In it, he created a comic book unlike anything that’s been done before. He used creative visuals to tell a tale that explained the origin of Echo. Everything from how she developed her skills, her father’s story, and relationship with Wilson Fisk were explained in an innovative way. It kind of looked like a collage. It’s worth the money for the art alone. The story is just an added bonus.
