Marvel Studios’ Blade was highly anticipated but the film has recently been placed on hold.

Remember when Blade saved the future of super hero films and Marvel? Well it turns out this time the character may need to be the one saved. The film recently lost its director Bassim Tariq and with the film’s pre-production on the horizon, it has now been delayed.

Blade, starring Mahershala Ali, was due to begin production this November with a November 2023 release date. There had been rumors since Tariq stepped away that there was some internal strife with the script. Word quickly went around that crew members were notified Tuesday that production is now halted as it searches for its new director. It was assumed that with the script already written the director would be an easy fill in.

Being that this has been one of the most highly anticipated films to come out of the studio it seems they are slowing down rather than rushing their search – something that was solidified when the film was officially delayed to September 6, 2024. And it’s not the only one, with Fantastic FourDeadpool 3 and Avengers: Secret Wars all getting new release dates.

It is unclear if Beau DeMayo’s script will still be used or if they will plan to rewrite it from scratch once a new director has been found.

There have been fans online championing the possibility of Marvel offering the film to Michael Giacchino, who has found success in the recently released Werewolf by Night special release that is now on Disney+.

While Giacchino would possibly be a fantastic fit and his style could fit the aesthetics of the vampire hunter, he has yet to comment. With this much pressure and drama surrounding the film it comes as no surprise that Marvel will want to hit their choice of director out of the park.

Blade was created in 1973 by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan and previously has showed up in his own cinematic trilogy prior to the MCU and a number of other properties.
