Harrison Ford has joined the MCU as General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross.

Harrison Ford has been the focal point of rumors lately as it was being discussed that he would be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe for some time now. The rumors became reality Monday as Deadline confirmed that the 80-year-old actor has officially signed on to play General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross.

He will be starring alongside Anthony Mackie in Captain America: New World Order. The film is due to be the fourth movie in Phase 5 of the MCU and star Mackie along with Ford and Tim Blake Nelson as The Leader.

The role of General Ross had previously been played by the late William Hurt, who passed away earlier this year. The character has long been an antagonist to The Hulk and now is seemingly going to be playing a bigger role in the Marvel Studios franchise. General Ross was also the one in the comics who brought us the esteemed team known as the Thunderbolts. The MCU’s Thunderbolts film is set to close out phase 5 which means Ford could be in multiple phase 5 projects.

The character Thunderbolt Ross was first created in 1962 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, and in 2008 after years of battling the Hulk transformed himself into Red Hulk to better fight against him. Marvel fans have been speculating if we will see Red Hulk show up on the big screen as far back as The Incredible Hulk film and this could be the chance to bring him in. Is it finally going to happen in the MCU?

Harrison Ford has played in many roles in his illustrious career, but none more iconic than Han Solo in the Star Wars franchise and the title character in the Indiana Jones movies. This will be his first step into the superhero world however – a step his wife, Calista Flockhart, made years ago when she played Cat Grant on Supergirl.

Captain America: New World Order  is written by Malcom Spellman whom also created Falcon and the Winter Soldier  for Disney+. The film will be directed by Julius Onah.

Captain America: New World Order will release in theaters everywhere May 3, 2024.
