When is Black Adam coming to HBO Max?
By Cody Schultz
Black Adam will make its way to HBO Max eventually, just don’t expect the film to arrive right away as fans are in for a bit of a wait before the film begins streaming.
On Friday, Oct. 21, Black Adam will finally hit theaters worldwide as DC Comics looks to introduce audiences to the character with the power to change the hierarchy of the DC Extended Universe.
In ancient Kahndaq, the slave Teth Adam was gifted the almighty powers of the gods. But he used those powers for vengeance and was imprisoned. Now, 5,000 years later, he is freed and once again wields his dark sense of justice onto the world. Refusing to surrender, Teth Adam is challenged by a team of modern-day heroes known as the Justice Society— Hawkman, Doctor Fate, Atom Smasher and Cyclone—who seek to return him to eternal captivity.
The film promises to be one of this year’s biggest box office hits and fans are sure to flock to theaters in the coming weeks to see the film. Those hoping to enjoy the movie from the comfort of their home via HBO Max, on the other hand, are going to have to wait a bit longer to enjoy the film via streaming.
Black Adam HBO Max release date updates
UPDATE: HBO Max has confirmed Black Adam will be released on its streaming platform on Friday, Dec. 16, 2022. This release date is far earlier than most expected but isn’t too surprising given the film’s performance and Warner Bros. Discovery’s likely hope to create buzz by releasing the film on HBO Max before the holidays.
Although HBO Max has not yet confirmed the exact date Black Adam will be released via the platform, it’s highly likely the film won’t be released on HBO Max until sometime in December 2022.
While Disney has been bringing its films to Disney Plus in shortened windows of time following its films’ theatrical releases, Warner Bros. Discovery has been looking to longer windows of time between a film’s release in theaters and on HBO Max.
With its most recent major theatrical release, Elvis, Warner Bros. Discovery opted to release the film on HBO Max 70 days after it opened in theaters. Should Warner Bros. Discovery take a similar approach with Black Adam, the soonest we could see the film release would be Friday, Dec. 30, 2022.
Truthfully, a Dec. 30 release date would allow viewers at home to watch the film over the holiday weekend and surely help to bolster interest in the streaming platform around the holiday. It’s also entirely possible HBO Max could choose to release the film a week earlier so that it would be available to stream over the Christmas holiday weekend.
Are you hoping Warner Bros. Discovery might choose to release the film earlier than the 70-day streaming release window we saw the studio take with Elvis? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
