DC movies in order: How to watch the DCEU movies in order
Black Adam is the most recent film in DC’s Extended Universe, but what order should you watch the DCEU movies in?
The DC Extended Universe is one of the biggest franchises in cinema today. Warner Bros. has been making movies based on DC Comics characters for decades, but it’s only in the past decade that they have decided to start their own shared universe of DC movies that share continuity with one another – likely inspired by the success of Marvel Studios’ Marvel Cinematic Universe.
It all started with Man of Steel back in 2013, which introduced us to Henry Cavill’s Superman and kicked off director Zack Snyder’s vision. After that came the likes of Ben Affleck’s Batman, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and more, as the DCEU expanded.
We now have it expanding into television with the Peacemaker series on HBO Max, and upcoming theatrical releases like the Dwyane Johnson-starring Black Adam, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Blue Beetle, and The Flash all set to take it into the future.
If you’re just starting your DCEU journey and would like to know where to begin, here is the order you should watch the DCEU movies (and its one show thus far) in.
DCEU movies and shows in order
- Man of Steel (2013)
- Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
- Suicide Squad (2016)
- Wonder Woman (2017)
- Justice League (2017) / Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021) *
- Aquaman (2018)
- Shazam! (2019)
- Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn) (2020)
- Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
- The Suicide Squad (2021)
- Peacemaker (2022 HBO Max TV series)
- Black Adam (2022)
Note: Joss Whedon’s Justice League was reviled by critics and resulted in a huge fan campaign that eventually led to Zack Snyder’s Justice League (the Snyder Cut) being released on HBO Max years later. Though a far superior film, it remains unclear which one will be considered canon going forward.
