House of the Dragon season 2 release updates: Is season 2 happening?
House of the Dragon season 2 is all fans can think about after a game-changing debut season for the Game of Thrones prequel.
House of the Dragon came, it saw, and it conquered. Tasked with bringing the Game of Thrones saga back to the pop culture landscape (and, in part, redeeming it after GoT‘s polarizing final season), it was under a lot of pressure to succeed, but it pulled it off and then some.
Debuting just before the last week of summer, the show has captivated audiences with its spectacular special effects, compelling drama and morally corrupt characters, as it showed us how the Targaryens came to be so infamous.
With the first season now in the books, all sights are now firmly set on the future of House of the Dragon, and whether or not it will return for a second season.
Is House of the Dragon season 2 happening?
If you’ve been worried about losing the GoT universe again after the prequel’s first season, fear not: House of the Dragon season 2 is in development. The HBO series was renewed for a second season after the resounding success of its very first episode, highlighting the faith that all involved have in this series.
Don’t be expecting it to arrive on screen in the near-future, though. Filming has yet to begin on season 2, with January 2023 rumored as a potential window for the commencement of production. With all of that in mind, the earliest we could expect the second season would probably be sometime in 2024.
We must appreciate that shows such as this are essentially treated as 10-part films each season, so it’s understandable that time needs to be taken when putting it together. And if we’ve learned anything from the standard of the first season, House of the Dragon season 2 will undoubtedly be worth the potentially long wait.
