The long wait for Amazon Prime Video’s Invincible season 2 will hurt the franchise in the long run.

Amazon Prime Video taking the comic book series Invincible and adapting it into a TV show was genius. First, this writer believes it’s the best comic book series of all time. It’s the blueprint on how to write a series. All of the characters’ stories improved as the series progressed. Even the minor ones. Some became better people or more deplorable villains. You’ll see it happen as the show goes on.

The most important part is the story. It flowed like no other comic series before it. At no point did it seem like it dragged or have any pointless moments. Everything that happened was for a reason. And here’s the best part, there was a conclusion. You didn’t have to assume how things would end for everyone because the final issue showed you. This writer would say more, but it would spoil the series.

Season 1 of Invincible was a success and they’ve barely scratched the surface of the story or the characters. Fans loved everything about it and have been patiently waiting for the second season to be released. Unfortunately, there’s been little to no news on when it’s returning – something that could hurt the show when it finally returns.

Why the long wait for Invincible season 2 could hurt the show

It’s been close to a year and a half since the Invincible season 1 finale. Normally, that isn’t a big deal. Sometimes it takes a while for a show to return, especially animated projects. However, in this case, there has been little-to-no news about Invincible’s return. It doesn’t help that their official Twitter page makes jokes when fans ask for updates. Granted, it must be frustrating getting asked the same question dozens of times a day. Nevertheless, trolling will only upset their fans.

An extended wait could lead to people becoming disinterested in the show, unfollowing their social media accounts, and possibly forgetting about the show in general. The latter is obviously the worst of the three options, but combined, it could be disastrous for the franchise. Could this be a case of out of sight, out of mind?

Thankfully, there could be some news coming at the top of the year or sooner.

Is Invincible season 2 news coming in January?

Earlier in October, the Invincible Twitter account closed out a tweet thread celebrating Invincible‘s 20th anniversary with a tweet that said, “And finally, in January there will be a [REDACTED BY CECIL STEDMAN OF THE GLOBAL DEFENSE AGENCY].”

This could just be referring to another special event for the 20 year anniversary of Invincible No. 1 (released in January of 2003). This milestone is a big deal. Some comic book series aren’t worth mentioning after a few years let alone 20. Because of this, it seems like the perfect time to announce the return of the show. Plus, there’s a lot of twos involved. The 20 year anniversary at the beginning of 2023 for season 2. It may seem silly, but so is the show. It fits the identity of the show. Who knows, maybe there will be two seasons next year too?

Regardless, we could finally get some form of update, a release date or a trailer for Invincible season 2 in January. Here’s hoping there is some acknowledgement of the show’s return.

Whatever happens, Invincible will remain a great show. The story is right there. All they have to do is change some of the outdated terms and ideas (which they’ve already done). With luck, news of season 2 will come sooner rather than later. This writer would hate for the show to get canceled before it truly gains momentum.
