There may be a glimmer of hope for fans of the DCEU as James Gunn and Peter Safran will be the new Co-CEOs and lead DC Studios.

Over the last year or so Warner Bros and more specifically their Detective Comics section have been without a true vision and leader. The hierarchy of the DC Universe may finally be about to change as Tuesday it was reported by Deadline that James Gunn and Peter Safran have stepped in to lead DC Studios.

Under the title DC Studios they will be co-chairs and co-CEOs to lead the TV, Film, and Animation under the newfound division. If you recall Warner Bros has been in a search for someone to lead this division and there were many names being discussed but nobody had been selected until now.

DC recently saw Walter Hamada leave the studio which only suggested further that a new head would be found as soon as possible. There is no doubt this is one of the most difficult jobs to do as the DC Extended Universe has been seen as visionless in recent years.

James Gunn and Peter Safran had been seen at Warner’s lot and many assumed it was due to discussing upcoming projects with the studio. Gunn (coming off his Peacemaker success) had been rumored to be heading up another massive project soon which many thought to be Superman. But now we know this was likely the reason for that visit.

Gunn will head the creative side of the house while Safran will be in charge of the business side. Both will report to David Zaslav (Warner Bros Discovery CEO) and work with other studio bosses closely. The deal will reportedly run for four years and James Gunn will be exclusive to DC (which means no more Marvel Cinematic Universe ventures for the Guardians of the Galaxy director for now). The idea is for the duo to be executives and oversee the bigger picture within the universe.
