Will House of the Dragon air a new episode tonight? (October 30, 2022)
House of the Dragon has become a staple of the TV schedule on Sunday nights. Will it air a new episode tonight?
What is there to say about House of the Dragon that hasn’t already been said over the past ten weeks? The show arrived on television with an unforgettable vengeance, reeled viewers back in, and brought the Game of Thrones universe back to life. Yes, it made an impact.
The franchise had fallen out of the mainstream conversations both because of its parent show, Game of Thrones, ending and the controversial ending it produced – one that resulted in its final season becoming the lowest-rated among critics and fans.
But those days are behind it now, as House of the Dragon has become the most popular series of the second half of the year, dominating conversations as fans obsessed over those Targaryens and their friends/enemies all over again, including Rhaenyra, Daemon, King Viserys Targaryen, and Queen Alicent Hightower.
That said, if you’re hoping to tune into a new episode of the series tonight, you might be disappointed.
Is House of the Dragon new tonight, October 30?
Unfortunately, House of the Dragon will not be airing a new episode tonight. While Sunday is the night that it aired new episodes on HBO and HBO Max, the show’s debut season concluded with last week’s season finale.
But fear not, House of the Dragon will return for a second season. Season 2 was commissioned after the first episode premiered, highlighting just how popular the show is (and how much faith HBO has in it).
When does House of the Dragon return to HBO?
House of the Dragon season 2 is expected to premiere in 2024. While speculation continues about its release date, HBO chief Casey Bloys told Vulture in a recent interview not to expect the show to return in 2023.
That might seem like a bit of a wait, but factoring in the production schedule and the amount of time that post-production and editing could take (given the scope of the show and its cinematic-level special effects), it makes sense. This is something that Bloys spoke about in the interview, adding:
"“We’re just starting to put the plan together, and just like last time, there are so many unknowns. It’s not to be coy or secretive, but you don’t want to say it’s going to be ready on this date, and then you have to move it.”"
Even with the wait, there is no doubting that House of the Dragon season 2 will be worth it. So sit back, relax and enjoy rewatching season 1 as that wait begins! Our watch is just starting (all over again!).
