Stargirl canceled at The CW: Find out when the last episode will air

Stargirl’s time on The CW is coming to a close as The CW series has been canceled after three seasons, with a series finale date set for this December.

Just when fans of The CW had begun to think the network had finally slowed down with its cancellation spree, the network has axed yet another series from its lineup.

Less than a week after news broke that the upcoming fourth season of Nancy Drew would be the show’s last, The CW has pulled the plug on yet another strong female-driven series with the cancellation of DC’s Stargirl. 

The series, which first began as a DC Universe Original before moving to The CW, will come to a close with its current third season which will continue to air on Wednesdays through December.

Is Stargirl canceled? (Will there be Stargirl season 4?)

Sadly, Stargirl has indeed been canceled by The CW and there don’t appear to be any plans for the show to continue for a fourth season. Despite solid ratings by The CW’s usual standards, the network decided to pull the plug on the show which has been a fear among viewers given its target audience and status as one of the network’s remaining superhero programs.

Will Stargirl be saved?

While some canceled shows in recent years have been lucky enough to find new homes, there appear to be no plans for Warner Bros. Discovery to shop Stargirl around to other networks or streaming platforms. Although disappointing, the move is not too surprising given the studio failed to attempt to shop any of the other series axed by The CW earlier this year and played a role in ending the shows.

The good news is that the creative team behind the show had been given an early indication that the show’s third season could be its last which allowed the show to craft an ending that would provide closure to fans.

"“Stargirl has always held a special place in my heart for many reasons. With all the brewing changes at the network, we were aware this was possibly the last season, so we wrote with that in mind and have delivered what I believe to be the best season of Stargirl yet, with complete creative closure,” series creator Goeff Johns promised in reacting to news of the show’s official cancellation."

When is the final episode of Stargirl set to air on The CW?

With Stargirl canceled, the show’s season 3 finale will now serve as its series finale and it appears the show will come to an end in early December. As confirmed with the news of the show’s cancellation, Stargirl season 3 will continue to air new episodes every Wednesday night on The CW through Dec. 7, when the final episode of the series will air.
