Titans: Starfire actor teases much-anticipated romance with Nightwing in Season 4
Titans star Anna Diop has teased the long-awaited romance between her character and Brenton Thwaites’ Dick Grayson aka Nightwing in season 4.
Former 24: Legacy starlet (no pun intended) Anna Diop teased romance between her character. Kory Anders (aka Starfire) and Brenton Thwaites’ Dick Grayson better known as the original Boy Wonder.
Following the defeat of Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow, the Titans leave Gotham to return to San Francisco. While on a cross-country trip, Metropolis is where you pick up the fledgling team of heroes this season on HBO Max.
According to Anna Diop, it seems the “long-awaited romance” is in the cards. The Valnet-owned media outlet behind the channel, Pitch Meeting, with Ryan George posed a question of any details she could spill the tea on. Diop stated in response:
"“Is there everything else that I can tease? Well, there’s some long-awaited romance that people have been desperately seeking. So, I hope that I’ll finally stop getting DMs about this [Laughs].”"
While Diop was slightly coy surrounding the details with regard to her character’s romance with Nightwing, this is something that would honestly be a natural progression for Dick and Kory’s relationship, and would arguably be the best for the show.
There were some early set photos that displayed new looks of the likes of Nightwing, Starfire, Superboy, Raven, and Beast Boy, including additional pics teased via one of the series directors’, Nicholas Copus. It displayed a pic of Kory looking fondly at Grayson who is off-screen over the shoulder.
The romance between Starfire and Nightwing in other media
Nightwing and Starfire always had a thing in the comics dating back to The New Teen Titans in the 80s to The New Titans that went into the 90s. At one point, they almost got married but their courtship was interrupted by an evil version of Raven.
Their relationship became even more popularised by the early 2000s series Teen Titans that ran between 2003-2006 during at which point Dick, who kept the Robin identity, and Starfire were maintained as more of a “Will they, won’t they?” sort of romance due to the age of viewership of the audience.
In the DC Animated Movie Universe, which started with Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, the relationship between Dick and Kory grew over the course of each appearance. By the subsequent release of the animated film Justice League vs. Teen Titans and Teen Titans: The Judas Contract, the couple has been established being actively dating and they were revealed to be the oldest and most mature members of the team, somewhat mirroring their live-action counterparts.
