On Nov. 11, the Marvel Cinematic Universe will once again expand with the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the highly anticipated follow-up to 2018’s Oscar-nominated film.

In Marvel Studios’ latest cinematic offering, we return to Wakanda which is facing some of its darkest days. Following the death of its King, T’Challa, Queen Ramonda, Shuri, M’Baku, Okoye, and the Dora Milaje must band together to protect their nation from new threats which emerge — including Namor, king of a hidden undersea nation.

As is only natural before a new Marvel movie or show arrives, as fans gear up to go see the film in theaters there is a natural curiosity to know what Marvel properties they should watch before enjoying the newest MCU film.

So what exactly should be on your list of movies and shows to enjoy before seeing Black Panther 2?

What to watch before Wakanda Forever

If you’re pressed for time, the two most important titles to watch before Black Panther: Wakanda Forever are Black Panther and Captain America: Civil War as both of these films played major roles in the introduction of Black Panther and Wakanda.

Captain America: Civil War introduced MCU audiences to Boseman’s T’Challa, as well as to John Kani’s T’Chaka and Martin Freeman’s Everett K. Ross. The film played a major role in laying the groundwork for Black Panther which is the second film you should watch before seeing Wakanda Forever as it’s the film that fully fleshed out the Black Panther lore and introduced audiences to the franchise’s key players.

In addition to Captain America: Civil War and Black Panther, it also wouldn’t hurt to watch Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame as both feature appearances from several key figures from the Black Panther franchise and the events of the two films are likely to be referenced in Wakanda Forever given the films marked Boseman’s final live-action appearances in the role of T’Challa.

On the television side of the MCU franchise, the only two shows that could be helpful to watch before seeing Wakanda Forever would be What If…? and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, though you’re not likely to miss any major context clues if you skip the shows before seeing Wakanda Forever.
