Is Rick Grimes in The Walking Dead series finale?

The Walking Dead season 11 will end the show’s lengthy run but will Rick Grimes return in the TWD series finale?

We are just days away from the final episode of The Walking Dead as the AMC series will end with the season 11 finale, which will presumably set up a future for the franchise without the main show in it.

We already know that this future for the TWD Universe will involve former leading man Rick Grimes, but the question remains if he will return to the show where it all began for its final send-off.

Andrew Lincoln brought Rick to life for the show’s first nine seasons before the character was written out, having

survived an explosion that everyone thought had killed him

. He was taken by what we presume to be the Civic Republic Military in a helicopter and has not been seen since. But will he be back for

the series finale

Will Andrew Lincoln return as Rick Grimes in The Walking Dead season 11 finale?

The most interesting thing about the series finale of The Walking Dead is that it will only be the beginning of a new story for multiple characters on the show.

Daryl Dixon will be heading off to Europe for his own spin-off, while Maggie and Negan will be doing the same in New York City for The Walking Dead: Dead City. Technically, Rick Grimes and Michonne will be doing the same in their own series, which will let us catch up with the characters years after the were separated.

If the series finale is intent on setting up these spin-offs, it would make sense to include a reference to Rick and Michonne, even if neither are a full-time part of the show anymore. We know that the TWD Universe has been making some references to the CRM recently, so it’s possible that this is laying the groundwork for Rick’s return.

More than that, though, a series finale is all about paying tribute to the show that came before it, and wouldn’t be possible to do that without some kind of nod to The Walking Dead‘s leading man Rick Grimes. So let’s cross our fingers Andrew Lincoln (and Danai Gurira) makes an appearance.
