The Walking Dead has killed off a lot of its main characters over the years. Here are all of the major character deaths in order.
When yours truly first began watching The Walking Dead, a friend that recommended it told me not to get emotionally attached to any character. Looking back now, it’s easy to see why: Not many of the show’s characters made it that far.
The long-running zombie series kicked off on AMC back in 2010 and it has gone on to become one of the biggest TV shows in the world, launching a new franchise in the process. That franchise will continue to grow in the years ahead with three in-development spinoff shows set to continue the stories of five of the show’s main characters.
That means Daryl, Maggie, Negan, Rick and Michonne (and probably Carol) will survive The Walking Dead in spite of the fact that the show is coming to an end. Unfortunately, not every character on the show made it to the TWD series finale.
With the show’s conclusion here, let’s take a moment to look back at every major character death in The Walking Dead throughout its 11-season run. Buckle up, there are a lot!

As The Walking Dead went on, it killed off less pivotal characters – both because the show needed to build more major and recurring characters, and with the survivors finding some semblance of safety in Alexandria, there were less run-ins with the dead. However, the introduction of Negan saw some of the most shocking deaths the show has ever done, and they didn’t stop there.
