2. Kamala Khan

Portraying a comic book character for the first time is pressure enough; add the fact that this is the first Pakistani and Muslim character and the project could feel the weight of responsibility to get it right. That’s what Iman Vellani had to do. Not only did she do a fantastic job, she should be a major part of Marvel Studios’ future going forward.

Kamala Khan will return in The Marvels (and hopefully in a Young Avengers project). Plus, she was the first person to be called a mutant. Namor may have been the first official mutant (unless Apocalypse debuts and is older), but Kamala was the first to be recognized.

1. A new Black Panther

Chadwick Boseman’s passing hit everyone hard. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was all about honoring him, and T’Challa’s legacy. But Wakanda still needed a protector. Thankfully, Shuri was there to fill the void. She may not have been the fighter that her brother was, but she wasn’t supposed to be him. Shuri was her own woman and hero. It showed in the way she treated being the Black Panther and how she defeated Namor.

This writer is happy that Shuri was given the role. Letitia Wright is a fantastic Shuri and has already been a superb Black Panther.
