Heartstopper season 2 is not coming to Netflix in 2022
Heartstopper season 2 won’t be arriving this year. When can audiences expect it?
It’s been nearly a year since Heartstopper premiered on Netflix and the hit show hasn’t left the hearts and minds of its fans.
The show very much came out of nowhere for many, catching them off-guard in the best kind of way. While success was always hoped for by the creative team, the show overperformed in a huge way, becoming a global phenomenon within days of its arrival on the streaming service.
That success made a renewal inevitable, and that’s exactly what happened when Netflix greenlit a second and third season.
If you were hoping that Heartstopper season 2 might arrive before the end of the year, however, you’ll be disappointed to know that isn’t happening. Not only is the show absent from Netflix’s December releases, the fact that it was filming season 2 until very recently made it simply impossible for it to return with new episodes this year.
Heartstopper season 2 release date predictions
Heartstopper season 2 just recently wrapped filming, with creator Alice Oseman taking to social media to celebrate. That’s an incredibly exciting update because it means that post-production can now get underway, meaning that the journey to season 2 premiering on our screens can finally begin.
As for when that could happen, the earliest we’re likely looking at would be mid 2023, with a fall 2023 release date probably being a much more realistic possibility. While Heartstopper wouldn’t require as much post-production as a show like, say, Stranger Things because it doesn’t rely on any real special effects, the streaming service does tend to hold its shows for a little while to make sure they are of the highest possible standard.
The first season filmed between April and June 2021, but it didn’t premiere until April 2022. It’s entirely possible that there could be a similar wait for season 2. Taking that into account, season 2 filmed between September and December 2022, so a September 2023 release could be a likely possibility.
As always, that’s just a prediction and it’s best to wait for official confirmation from Netflix, but know that we will see the return of Charlie Spring and Nick Nelson soon.
