House of the Dragon season 2 might not arrive until summer 2024 (Rumor)

We knew the wait for House of the Dragon season 2 would be a long one, but a new rumor suggests we could be waiting until summer 2024 for the next season.

Before House of the Dragon even premiered, there was an expectation that the show could become HBO’s biggest hit since its predecessor, Game of Thrones, ended. So when the show debuted this summer and became a ratings success for the network, few were surprised.

The show was renewed for a second season by HBO shortly after, but it quickly became clear that fans could be in for quite an extended wait for House of the Dragon season 2.

Given the scope of the show and the scale of its production, a 2023 release date was swiftly ruled out for the show. The hope then shifted to the series returning sometime in the early part of 2024 to help shorten the wait for the next season. Now, that seems to be a stretch, at least according to a new rumor gaining traction online.

House of the Dragon season 2 release date rumors

According to a new rumor from a House of the Dragon insider page, filming on the second season of the HBO series is set to begin between January and March of 2023. This rumor aligns with reports from several outlets which indicate HBO won’t begin production on the next season until early 2023, seeming to support the suggestion that filming on season 2 will begin within the first quarter of the year.

What’s interesting, though, is that the insider page then reports season 2 might not arrive until as late as early summer 2024. Although disappointing, this timeline would technically align with the release window HBO took with season 1 which arrived in August 2022.

It’s also important to note the insider does suggest we could season the season to arrive in spring which is another window that aligns with Game of Thrones seasons, as we saw a few seasons of the flagship show debut in the spring. As such, it seems likely we could be looking at a release between April and June 2024 according to the rumor.

Of course, it’s likely we won’t have a concrete release date for the second season for several more months. However, the one thing that has become certain is we shouldn’t expect to see the season until at least 2024.
