Fans are eager to see the X-Men join the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Chris Pine being a favorite among fans to play Cyclops and it’s easy to see why.

Now that Marvel has managed to regain the rights to the X-Men characters, it’s only a matter of time before the iconic group makes its way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

With such a rich wealth of characters, there’s no telling which X-Men heroes and villains Marvel will eventually bring into the mix. That said, one has to imagine Marvel won’t sit on the franchise’s most well-known and beloved characters for too long. Among the characters most likely to be among the first to make their MCU debuts is long-time X-Men leader Cyclops.

Given we’ve already seen two versions of the character on the big screen played by James Marsden and Tye Sheridan, it will be interesting to see who Marvel might tap to bring the character to life when they relaunch the franchise.

It might be some time before Marvel begins assembling its X-Men team, but that hasn’t stopped fans from sharing their dream castings with Wonder Woman star Chris Pine quickly emerging as a favorite among audiences. After seeing him suit up as Cyclops, it’s not hard to see why fans have put Pine at the top of their wishlists!

What Chris Pine could look like as Cyclops in the MCU

While it’s unclear when exactly Marvel might choose to finally begin making some casting moves, artist ApexForm has given fans the chance to see just how incredible Chris Pine could be as Cyclops if given the chance!

In the stunning concept art, ApexForm envisions the Wonder Woman 1984 actor as the longtime leader of the X-Men and we have to admit it’s going to be hard to picture any other actor playing the character after seeing Pine suit up. Staying true to the character’s iconic comic book look, Pine is transformed into Cyclops complete with the character’s iconic visor which helps him to control and focus his optic blasts.

Admittedly, Cyclops’ suit hasn’t always been viewed as the coolest or toughest-looking costume; however, ApexForm has somehow managed to find a way to not only stay true to the costume’s origins but make it look absolutely incredible! And let’s not overlook how perfect Pine is for the role.

Not only does he match the character’s comic likeness — as the above fanart proves — but he has all the attributes in an actor which would make him perfect for the role.

He can play the alpha male in a franchise who isn’t afraid to step back and let the equally powerful women around him shine brightly, which is a key for the leader of the X-Men. We can also count on him to bring a much-needed vulnerability to the character as a balance to his often known for having a stoic personality.

Could Chris Pine play Cyclops in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

So now that we’ve established how incredible Chris Pine could look as Cyclops in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, what are the actual odds that he could look to pull double-duty by taking on a role in the MCU as a follow-up to his turn as the DCEU’s Steve Trevor?

At this time, Marvel has not yet confirmed its plans for introducing the X-Men within the MCU and therefore no official casting decisions have been made.

While it’s possible Marvel could be eyeing Chris Pine for a role in the MCU, be it in an X-Men project or some other yet-to-be-confirmed project, we’re not certain Pine would be interested in hearing their pitch.

Although Pine has shown he has no problem joining a superhero franchise, he threw some major shade Marvel’s way during a Wonder Woman press junket back in 2018.

"“Within this genre it’s difficult to do something new and usually you just see a bunch of people killing one another in outfits and blowing up cities. Like I know there’s a thing called Infinity War coming out, which is like, really? Infinity War? We need more war for all time?”"

It’s possible he was just taking a jab at the competition at the time, but the comments definitely make one wonder whether he would consider joining the MCU given his past remarks. That said, it looks like his time with DC could be coming to an end after reports have surfaced suggesting the third Wonder Woman movie is not moving forward at Warner Bros.

With James Gunn and Peter Safran coming in as the new co-presidents of DC Studios, it’s expected we’ve seen the last of many actors from the franchise. With the changing of the guard, DC is expected to start cleaning house and if Wonder Woman 3 isn’t happening, it seems like Pine could become a free agent for Marvel to swoop up.
