The Flash will be back for its ninth season very soon. When does the show return in 2023?
The Flash is the longest-running comic book show on the air today and it will finish its run just shy of becoming the longest-running superhero series ever (an honor that still belongs to The CW’s Smallville). Yes, the lone surviving Arrowverse show will return to screens in the new year to commence its ninth and final season, closing out an incredible era for comic book TV in the process.
The most successful show in the history of The CW, The Flash premiered back in 2014 and changed the game for the Arrowverse and the superhero world in general. To say its conclusion will mark the end of an era would be an understatement, and fans of the show certainly don’t want to face that reality.
That said, they do want the show back on our screens. So just when will that happen?
The Flash season 9 release date 2023
The Flash season 9 will premiere on The CW on Wednesday, February 8 2023, at 8:00 p.m. ET. It will then air new episodes weekly on Wednesdays, leading into new episodes of Kung Fu season 3.
The veteran superhero show was one of the lucky few CW shows to be renewed ahead of the network’s sale to Nexstar. While it’s sad that it will end, fellow Arrowverse shows DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman weren’t even given that chance to do that as they were unceremoniously cancelled. It would then be announced some months later that fellow DC TV show Stargirl would not be renewed for a fourth season either, ending its run on The CW too.
The Flash‘s return in 2023 has been public knowledge for some time now. After its renewal, it was revealed at The CW’s Upfronts Presentation that it, along with Superman and Lois, Gotham Knights, Nancy Drew, and the final season of Riverdale would be held until next year.
It was subsequently revealed that the ninth season of The Flash would be its last – something that fans had been speculating for some time. Whether or not the sale of the network had anything to do with that decision is unknown, but it is good to know that the most pivotal show to ever air on the network will get to bow out how it wants to.
