The previous episode of Rick and Morty had a couple of call backs to previous episodes. First, there was Morty being told he’d have to chop off his little Morty in order to save the universe from intergalactic civil war. This seemed like a similar story from season 2, episode 1 “Interdimensional Cable 2: Tempting Fate”.

The second reference was the solution to the ruler of the sun problem. Rick and Morty jumping into the lava was a call back to the perfectly named, “The Vat of Acid Episode” from season 4. Morty even asked if the lava was a “vat of acid” thing. Overall, this was a fun episode. Definitely worth a rewatch since there were probably other references this writer missed.

The last few season finales of Rick and Morty have been deep and sometimes depressing. There’s no reason to believe that trend will change. This time, look for Morty’s real grandfather to make an appearance. There’s a reason that he popped up during the post credit scene of the season premiere and killed Morty’s dad. They had a common enemy and could have teamed up. The only logical reason is to let the audience know that he’s still around and a cold blooded killer.

Rick Sanchez (the one who stars in this show) still owes Morty’s real grandfather for killing his family. He almost had him in the season premiere but chose to help his new family instead. If Rick finds out where the murderer of his family is, he will go after him. What happens next is up in the air. If this writer had to guess, Space Beth is going to die. Likely saving Rick from being killed. She was in this season a lot. Probably to make her death more emotional.

As Rick and Morty is an Adult Swim-exclusive series, the season 6 finale can be viewed on TV on the Adult Swim channel itself. They are also expected to be made available on Adult Swim’s website, with the hope that it will stream on HBO Max and Hulu sometime in the future.
