One of the more frustrating things about TV shows today is the consistency. There never seems to be a set schedule. Sometimes the seasons come out yearly, other times they don’t. Take Venture Bros for example. Season 1 came out in 2004 but by 2022, the show is only on season 7. Of course, there are a lot of factors that go into that; chief among them is writing. Creating a top tier show like Venture Bros isn’t easy. The time in between seasons is why every episode has been flawless.

Now we come to Rick and Morty. A new season has come out at least every two years since the show started. That regularity should continue into 2023. Its sixth season just ended with an epic finale, leaving fans to wonder when season 7 will debut, and it could be sooner than you might think.

Is Rick and Morty season 7 happening?

If you’re wondering what the future holds for Rick and Morty, you’ll be happy to know that season 7 is indeed happening. The show was renewed for 70 new episodes back in 2018. The release of season 6 may have come and gone, but there are still 40 episodes of that renewal left, meaning that it will return.

In fact, it will likely be back in 2023, as show co-creator Dan Harmon revealed that he intends on releasing a new season of the show every year. Furthermore, as reported by ComicBook.com, in August of 2021 the writers had wrapped up on Rick and Morty season 7, as writer Cody Ziglar announced via social media:

"“That’s a friggin’ wrap on Rick & Morty season 7. We all stared into the abyss & saw the face of God & It was a Gundam.”"

Rick and Morty’s popularity hasn’t subsided in the years since its debut. Considering that the show and its characters are everywhere, it’s a testament to how good it is that people haven’t gotten tired of it. There have even been special spin-off shorts on YouTube featuring the Vindicators and a ton of advertisements. This has made sure that the characters in the minds of their fans.

Rick has been waiting to get revenge on the Rick that killed his family for decades. With Rick and Morty season 6 ending with an agreement to hunt Rick Prime together, season 7 likely isn’t far behind. As we’ve seen, Rick Prime has all of Regular Rick’s smarts with none of the compassion. That makes him more dangerous. Hopefully, season 7 doesn’t end with Rick Prime winning and killing the Rick Sanchez that fans love. Either way, this could conclude with the fight of the year.
