Every DC movie and TV show cancelled in 2022
DC fans weren’t prepared for the cancellations in 2022. Here are all of the TV shows and movies cancelled by Warner Bros. Discovery or The CW.
It’s been a rough year to be a DC fan. That’s probably not the first time you’ve heard that sentiment this year and at this rate it might not even be the last. 2022 has seen the comic book landscape grow and evolve in various different ways, but for DC, that landscape has shrunk significantly.
The comic book company that once dominated superhero television has seen many of the properties that did that come to a premature end, while the axe was dropped on some in-development (and completed) movies as well.
The CW’s sale to Nexstar meant that not all of its shows would survive, demolishing the Arrowverse with veterans like Batwoman and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow getting cancelled without final seasons, while Stargirl‘s third season was also deemed to be its last. The Flash was saved for one more year, but it too will end in 2023.
Meanwhile, Warner Bros. Discovery’s cancellation of Batgirl shook the entertainment world to its core. But even with new leadership bringing hope to the playground in James Gunn and Peter Safran being announced as the new heads of DC Studios, more DCEU cancellations came with it.
The announcement that Wonder Woman 3 would not be going ahead in its current form rocked the entertainment world but it too was only the beginning, as it was then reported that a Batman Beyond movie starring Michael Keaton (and potentially Michelle Pfeiffer) had also been scrapped.
From The CW mass cancellation spree, to Warner’s war on the old DCEU, here is every DC project that got cancelled in 2022.
DC shows and movies cancelled in 2022
- Batgirl
- Batman Beyond
- Batman: Caped Crusader (could still move forward on another streaming service)
- Batwoman
- Black Adam 2
- Constantine HBO Max series
- DC’s Legends of Tomorrow
- DC’s Stargirl
- Madame X
- Man of Steel 2
- Naomi
- Strange Adventures
- The Flash (renewed for final season which will premiere in 2023)
- The Wonder Twins
- Wonder Woman 3 (could still happen but likely will be different from initial idea)
- Young Justice
There is hope that James Gunn and Peter Safran will produce a more cohesive DCEU and that no more cancellations will come. We also hope that things work themselves out for Wonder Woman 3 and that we get that third movie.
As for The CW, the home of the Arrowverse is pretty bleak as Nexstar continue to change the network’s brand. That could mean danger for remaining superhero shows Superman and Lois and Gotham Knights (but we certainly hope not!).
Let’s hope that 2023 is a significantly better year for DC and DC fans.
