DC: 9 things Warner Bros. Discovery’s new DCU needs to prioritize
By Mark Lynch
1. Restoring faith
None of the things we’ve discussed will mean anything if the fans, viewers, and the people funding the projects don’t believe in what DC Comics and Warner Bros Media is doing. When someone loses trust, it takes a while to get it back. Shazam, Harley Quinn, The Suicide Squad, and Peacemaker are all good products, and they gave the DCEU a place to potentially reset. However, all of the cancellations, and reshufflings is making things worse.
In the future, fans will want to know what DC Comics’ plan is. Who will be the next Superman? What does no Wonder Woman 3 mean for Gal Gadot? Are any of the other DC Comics shows and movies getting canceled? This uncertainty makes people nervous. Why would anyone spend money and time looking into a project just for them to get canceled? It will eventually become so frustrating that people will look elsewhere for entertainment.
People may be mad at James Gunn, but he’s done enough to warrant trust. Plus, he just stepped into the role. He shouldn’t be criticized for what his predecessor did. If he doesn’t create a good product, this writer will be the first to say that what’s being done isn’t good. Until then, cut the guy some slack. Neither Rome or the MCU were built in the day. James Gunn could be the person to restore faith in the DCEU. He has all the tools and the characters to do it. All that’s left to do is execute the plan.
