In a recent post Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson confirmed he met with James Gunn and that Black Adam is out in the DCEU.

It has been a tough few weeks for fans of the DC Universe as there have been a flurry of reports over which actors and characters are still in and who is out. Last week it was confirmed that Henry Cavill will no longer portray Superman and since then rumors have been flying.

In a recent post from Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, it has now been confirmed that Black Adam will not be in the future plans for James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe – the film franchise that will take over from the DC Extended Universe. The actor confirmed that “Black Adam will not be in their first chapter of storytelling.” He then went on to say that his studio Seven Bucks and DC have agreed to discuss how the character fits in the future stories.

Black Adam falls to a changing hierarchy at DC

This news comes on the heels of a story that Johnson had leaked a fake report stating that Black Adam was a financial success which later was reported to be false. The film earned $391.1 million and sits at a 39% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and an 88% audience score. It had been in development since 2007 when The Rock was first announced for the role.

James Gunn has confirmed that he and Safran have their plan ready to roll out for the future of the DCEU and we can probably expect him to pitch it in December, with announcements coming in the new year. So far it is unclear if characters such as Zachary Levi’s Shazam, Gal Gadot’s, Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa’s Aquaman, and others will be returning or if a full on reboot is to be expected.
