Will these movies ever make it to the movie theaters, or will they join the many productions cancelled in 2022?

A new year is almost upon us, and with that will come a ton of new movies that film fans will undoubtedly be happy to consume in 2023. The standard is surely to be high, or at least demand will be after everything that arrived on the big screen in 2022, which saw the likes of The BatmanTop Gun: MaverickJurassic World DominionDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of MadnessThor: Love and ThunderBlack Panther: Wakanda Forever, and Avatar: The Way of Water light up the box office.

But 2022 was also a challenging year for DC fans, as a lot of the upcoming, in-development, and currently airing TV and/or film properties were cancelled. And with another year upon us, there is still a lot of uncertainty surrounding some of the upcoming titles – and there is a big question mark around movie that isn’t DC-related whatsoever.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the films in danger of cancellation in 2023.

Blue Beetle

You have no idea how much I don’t want to put this out there, but Blue Beetle might be one of the most at risk DC properties right now. The fact that it’s set to be the first feature film about a hero not as well-known to the mainstream audience is a good thing, but it could also work against it – especially when a movie like Black Adam, starring a Hollywood headliner like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, underperformed.

The fact that it was once going to be a HBO Max movie instantly draws comparisons to the cancelled Batgirl movie, but the cast and crew of Blue Beetle have reportedly been assured they won’t suffer the same fate. Here’s hoping that is the case, because with DC at this moment in time, you just never know what to expect.

The fact that this may not be tied directly to the old DCEU may have worked against it in another life. Now, it might just be enough to save it.
