Supergirl

The Girl of Steel had a hugely successful TV series that ran for six seasons (debuting on CBS and moving to The CW), so when audiences found out that she would be set to star in her own movie set in the DCEU, they were super excited!

Sasha Calle was cast, with the character set to make her first appearance in Andy Muschietti’s The Flash movie. Provided that movie still goes ahead next year, we can plan on seeing the DCEU’s Girl of Steel come to life on the big screen. This was reportedly going to set the stage for her own film, with Calle reprising the role. However, soon after Batgirl‘s cancellation, it was revealed that the likelihood of Supergirl moving forward would be unlikely.

Sasha Calle will still make her debut appearance as Supergirl in The Flash but what happens after that is anybody’s guess. We’ll have to wait and see if James Gunn and Peter Safran wish to move forward with the character’s once-planned solo movie. If they don’t, though, it could end up like the countless other DC projects cancelled this year.

The Flash

The Flash is lucky that it hasn’t been cancelled at this point. With all of the uncertainty surrounding the future of the DCEU and the controversy surrounding Ezra Miller’s troubles with the law, the movie has been on thin ice for some time now in the minds of the public at least.

Warner Bros. Discovery seemed very happy with the film after its future was called into question and it seemed like they are relying on its multiversal-time-traveling-centric plotline to press a hard reset on the DCEU. But that was before James Gunn and Peter Safran took over as Chairmen and CEOs of DC Studios.

Are they still as excited about it as Warner Bros. Discovery was? Is it even worth releasing if the DCEU is about to get rebooted (perhaps to an even greater extent than this already-completed movie is capable of pulling off)?

The fact that The Flash movie was greenlit shortly after The CW TV series started but won’t release until after it concludes its ninth and final season really highlights just how many issues the film has had to overcome. Will it manage to make it to theaters in June 2023?
