By Cody Schultz
As DC begins looking for its next Superman, Euporhia actor Jacob Elordi has emerged as an early favorite among fans and it’s not hard to see why.
Superman is one of the most iconic figures in popular culture, known for his superhuman abilities, his heroic actions, and his iconic costume. He is one of the most recognizable and enduring characters in the world and has inspired countless imitators, spin-offs, and homages over the years.
From his humble beginnings as a newspaper strip character in the 1930s, he has remained a popular and enduring figure in comics, movies, television, and other media. He has inspired generations of fans with his bravery, his selflessness, and his commitment to justice, and he has become a symbol of hope and inspiration for people all over the world.
Whether you are a fan of comics, movies, or superhero fiction in general, it is impossible to deny the enduring impact and influence of Superman on popular culture. Over the years, he has been featured in countless movies, television shows, and other media, and has inspired countless spin-offs, homages, and imitators.
Most recently, Henry Cavill suited up as the Man of Steel and it looked like he was going to once again do so after returning to the DCEU in Black Adam. However, Co-Chairmen and CEOs of DC Studios James Gunn and Peter Safran have made it clear they’re putting Cavill’s Superman to bed as they look to introduce a younger iteration of the character and begin building their new DC universe.
With DC looking to focus on the earlier part of Superman’s life, it’s expected they’ll be turning to a younger actor which has led many to speculate who might be in the mix for casting consideration. One name that has emerged as a fan-favorite is Euphoria star Jacob Elordi, and it’s not hard to see why the idea is gaining traction after seeing how amazing Elordi could be in the role if given the chance.
What Jacob Elordi could look like as Superman
Drawing inspiration from the news of a new Superman coming in wake of Henry Cavill’s ousting, digital artist David Jones was inspired to create a new piece of concept art envisioning Jacob Elordi as the Man of Steel.
In the stunning art, Elordi is transformed into Superman rocking a sleek modern suit that pays tribute to the character’s legacy look. Of course, you can’t have Superman without his equally iconic hair curl which is achieved in a subtle way that perfectly ties the look together.
While the art is nothing more than a fan concept at the moment, there is no denying that it makes a compelling argument for how amazing Elordi could be in the role.
We know he has the physique to pull off the role standing at a commanding 6’5 with a strong build, and he’s definitely in the perfect age range for the role. Plus, it seems like only a matter of time before he makes the jump to the superhero genre, and what better way to break into the genre than by playing one of the most beloved superheroes around?!
Has DC cast Henry Cavill’s replacement?
At this time, DC has not announced who will be replacing Henry Cavill as Superman or even a timeline for when a casting announcement could be made. However, rumors have begun to circulate about who could be in the running to take up the mantle of Superman in James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy.
In a report from The Hollywood Reporter, it’s hinted that DC Studios is currently in the casting process for the movie with a handful of actors in the mix. According to the report, actor David Corenswet is said to be the current frontrunner with two unnamed actors also at the top of DC’s wishlist.
British actors Tom Brittney and Andrew Richardson are said to have also been in the mix for the role, while Jacob Elordi is reported to have never gone out for the role despite fan interest and enthusiasm in seeing him take on the part.
Is Jacob Elordi playing Superman in James Gunn’s Superman movie?
Although fans seem to have a strong interest in seeing Jacon Elordi playing the Man of Steel, the Euphoria actor has not come forward to show any interest in the role. In fact, it’s reported he never even submitted an audition tape for the part.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Elordi did not seek out the role in James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy which seems to indicate he was not interested in suiting up as the Man of Steel in the new DC Universe about to be launched with the film’s release in 2025.
There is always a chance that THR could be incorrect and that Elordi could have met with DC, the publication is among the most reputable around which suggests Elordi sadly won’t be suiting up as Superman. Who knows, maybe he might end up playing another superhero someday as he definitely has the acting chops and build to play one.
