10 best comic book TV shows of 2022, ranked
4. Moon Knight
Moon Knight was an ambitious feat for Marvel Studios because it was also unlike any other properties the MCU had tackled before. For starters, it was the first time the title character had been adapted for live-action, and it took place in a show that completely disconnected itself from the rest of the shared universe Marvel spent 14 years building.
As it was so different, Moon Knight was able to play with various genres, leaning into elements of adventure, thriller, fantasy, and even psychological horror. It worked, and it worked well, with Oscar Isaac delivering one of the best performances of the year (across all of television and film) to ensure that Moon Knight’s first live-action appearance was worthy of his decades of source material.
3. Superman and Lois
Superman and Lois‘ debut season was one of the most perfect beginnings for a comic book TV show. The only downside to that was that it put a ton of pressure on the show’s second season to succeed it. Thankfully, it pulled it off (and then some).
More grounded than its predecessor in some ways (and more outlandish than it in others), Superman and Lois season 2 saw the Kent-Lane-Irons Family tackle Bizzaro Superman and the parasitic cult leader Ally Allston. It takes its time building to its real story and when it rips the band aid off, you’re in for a thrill-ride worthy of Clark Kent and Lois Lane’s legacy.
It might not quite reach the highs of season 1, but the second season is yet another example of how Superman and Lois is prestige superhero/comic book TV. And Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch again deliver remarkable performances that highlight why they are the definitive versions of these legendary characters.
