Batwoman

Batwoman experienced quite a bit of turbulence during its time on the air, but it did manage to run for three successful seasons. From a dodgy debut trailer to the departure of its lead star Ruby Rose after season 1, the Scarlet Knight had a lot to overcome, but it did that in the end, stabilizing itself with a new lead in Javicia Leslie and finding its most solid footing in its exceptional third season.

Unfortunately, Batwoman was the first of The CW’s many cancellations during its 2022 cull as the network prepared for its eventual sale to Nexstar. However, it would soon be revealed that the network actually wanted to keep both Batwoman and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow for at least one more season, but that Warner Bros. reportedly “no longer wanted to pay the leases on the studio space”.

The good news is that the Scarlet Knight herself, Ryan Wilder, will return in a guest appearance on The Flash season 9, but as far as the Batwoman show goes, it’s the unfortunate end of the road.

DC’s Stargirl

DC’s Stargirl has been a comic book delight throughout its three seasons. The former DC Universe show was saved by The CW when the streaming service evolved out of the streaming game and into a comics-only service. Given the network’s penchant for superheroes and teens, it was a match made in Heaven.

In spite of delivering three exceptional seasons (the last of which might just be its best), the network decided to cancel Stargirl when it came under new ownership in Nexstar. But not even cancellation could stop Stargirl from shining brighter than ever in an exceptional series finale that left fans both satisfied and wanting more – the very best way to go out.

Now, as we look ahead to a TV landscape without Stargirl in it, it’s beginning to set in just how much we’ll all miss the stories it never got to tell. Oh how it deserved so much better.
